Online examination specialist


Educational Development and Technology (Lehrentwicklung und -technologie (LET)), an ETH Zurich administrative department which reports to the Rector, assists ETH Zurich educators in their teaching and examination tasks. LET offers high-quality courses, coaching and guidance for lecturers, and fosters pedagogical innovation and the deployment of digital technology in university teaching. In addition to further activities related to university teaching it is also in charge of ETH Zurich’s teaching evaluations. With more than 100 examinations involving 10,000 students per year, LET is the Swiss university leader in conducting and developing online examinations. In the coming years, ETH will expand significantly its online examinations capacity. For the further development of its online examination service a fixed-term position (until December 2020) is available at LET to start immediately or by agreement as an Online examination specialist.


The successful candidate will interface between IT specialists and examiners and between examination didactics and examination software. He/she will put into service new examination rooms, conduct examinations on mobile devices and generally help us to scale up online examinations at ETH Zurich. He/she will develop didactic concepts for the optimization of the quiz tool in Moodle, integrate discipline-specific software into competence-oriented examination environments and in so doing optimise examination quality and efficiency. He/she will also assist examiners, from the planning of the examination to its implementation.

As a person, the successful candidate will have a sociable personality and an ability to work in a highly motivated team with a great variety of experts. He/she will be confident, resilient and capable of remaining calm in hectic situations. He/she is fluent in German and English, and be able to network quickly with relevant contacts inside and outside ETH Zurich.

To apply for the post you should hold at least a Master’s-level tertiary qualification (university or university of applied sciences). In this position, you apply successfully your knowledge in the fields of psychology/education (performance measurement, learning, and pedagogy), information technology and project management. You possess in-depth knowledge and work experience in one of these areas, and are willing to become familiar with the others.
